Dominick turned 6 months old on Sunday, March 24th. At his appointment he was:
14 lbs 13 oz, and 27 inches long
He is such a joy, and I couldn't feel more lucky to have him as my first child. I'm spoiled with him, I swear. Since day one he has been such a trooper. He caught on to breastfeeding like nothing. Once I went back to work he took to bottles while at the sitters, and nursing while home like it was how we had always done it (We did have a couple days of transition that was hard on both of us, but we got through it). I had been having him sleep in our room in his pack and play because I was afraid to transition him into his crib.. I thought he would hate it, and I'd have to sleep in his room with him in order for him to stay there. I was wrong, and it was just me that was having the issue with moving him. I've had him in his crib off and on for about 3 weeks now (mostly on).
Since he turned 6 months old:
Teething: It has only just began, and I'm already wishing it was over. He can be a real cranky pants sometimes (like tonight), and no matter how hard I try to get him to sleep he fights me. He won't eat, or cuddle, or even keep his binky in (he throws it across the room). Sometimes I have to hand him off to Rich or my mom, and just take a deep breath and a moment to myself. Once I do that, I'm all good to step in and try again with a little more patience.
Binky: He can now take it out and throw it (as mentioned above). He can also pick it up, reposition it in his hands, and get it back into his mouth. It is the cutest thing to watch him turn it all around in his little tiny hands and then pop it right back into his mouth. He also does this in the middle of the night. I'll go in to check on him and he'll be sans binky, then the next time I go in there, it's in his mouth. Pretty impressive if you ask me ;)
Sitting up on his own: Seriously, since the day he turned 6 months he's been sitting up. He gets better and better everyday. He get's up real high on his hands, and sometimes up on his knees. He still isn't mobile yet though. He can pivot all around when he's on his belly though. He sits upright in his bath now and he splashes and splashes. So fun!
Solids: I try about every other night, but the kid isn't interested. I don't want to push it too hard, cause I don't want him to have negative emotions tied to a spoon. But jeez.. I just thought every kid opened up and let you shovel food in their face. I was wrong. He would rather just nurse.. and that's fine with me (for now).
He is at such a fun age, and I miss him all day while I'm at work. I can't wait to get off and rush to pick him up. It's crazy.. he is my life now. Every thought I have includes him in some way. I don't do anything without first thinking of him. The time is flying..and he's growing and learning so fast. It's nuts!
Until next time,
Heather
